National Programs
Reflections
For 40 years the National PTA Reflections program has encouraged students across the nation and in American Schools overseas to explore their talents through the Arts.
Reflections is an annual program that encourages students' artistic talents. For more than 30 years, the Reflections program has invited children (preschool-grade 12) to create and submit works of art.
Every year in Utah we have about 60,000 students enter the Reflections program. We have expanded the original categories of Music, Photography, Visual Arts and Literature to include 4 additional categories, including Dance, Theatre, 3D and Film and Video.
This is a wonderful program for our students. The excitement and enthusiasm that the Reflections arts recognition program generates for children, parents, schools, and communities is unmatched.
The Reflections program offers your PTA an opportunity to showcase your school and students and demonstrate the importance of a quality arts education. In addition, the Reflections program offers students the opportunity to express themselves and receive positive recognition for their artistic efforts.
You can also find more information on the
National PTA Reflections Page.

Battle of the Bands
The following information will help provide a successful Battle of the Bands at your school. The information
given is what is required at the State competition and it is recommended to be used, at your
school’s discretion, depending on your needs and activity.
· All bands, consisting of two (2) or more people, need to prepare an eight (8) minute set. This
should be two songs; the first song an original (you should have the lyrics of both songs
submitted at the local level), the second song should be a well known song from
the 60s to 2010.
· Your set should contain no vulgarities, profanities, lewd comments, racist remarks, violence,
sexual content, etc.
· You must provide your own instruments, amplifiers, and cables.
· Your dress must meet local school district guidelines: all clothing must remain on during
your performance. No masks or face painting.
· Your band needs to meet the 70/30% ratio. At least 70% of the band must be of high-school age
(9-12 grades). If your band consists of three members, 2 out of 3 must be high school age and
go to the same school. No member of the band can be below 9th grade or be over the age of
20 on the date of the State competition.
· Band members are not required to be from the same school but they must submit to the school
where the majority of the band members attend.
· 70% of band members must come from a PTA in good standing.
· Band members are only allowed to be in one band.
· All bands are eligible (Garage bands, Jazz bands, country, etc.).· Good luck and have fun!PRIZES
All participating bands will receive a t-shirt.
The top three bands will receive studio time, CD’s, and an opportunity to play at a REAL Salt Lake game, as well as additional prizes.
The first place band also wins an opportunity to create a live concert video shoot at MusicGarage.org.
New this year to Battle of the Bands is Tilly's, MusicGarage.org, and Beau. We are excited to be working with them and feel they will be a great asset to our program.
Male Involvement
Studies show students perform better when mothers and fathers are both involved in the education of their children. Men and women think differently and bring different perspectives and skills to school and PTA activities. School communities and PTAs thrive when both men and women participate. Yet men remain a largely untapped resource.

WATCH D.O.G.S.® is the father involvement initiative of the National Center for Fathering that was founded by Jim Moore, a concerned father who chose to take action in response to a 1998 middle-school shooting in Jonesboro, AR. Moore wanted to help prevent violence from occurring at his children’s school or at any school. The first program was launched at George Elementary in Springdale, AR, the school of Moore’s oldest child. Today, more than 2127 programs in 40 states and New Zealand participate in WATCH D.O.G.S.®

Council Programs
$500 Scholarship for three seniors!
Council PTA offers three $500 scholarships to student PTA Members. Each school PTA in our council funds this award every year to help with the rising expenses for our college bound students members.
Award of Excellence
Council gives a lunch celebration to honor teachers, administrators, staff and volunteers from each of our schools. Each school elects the award winners that will be honored. This is our way to show our appreciation for those that have gone above and beyond for our children and who have supported our programs. We love this event. It is all from the heart.
PGJr Programs
Reality Town
Reality Town is a program put on by our counseling office. Our 8th graders are introduced to the reality of the every day expenses that adults experience. They receive an assembly that explains what they will need to accomplish and each student receives a check book. They move among several booths to purchase everyday expenses. They receive a salary and an occupation based on their grades at the time of this event. Some get to experience bankruptcy and have to move back home. It is such a fun and entertaining activity. This is also the biggest school event supported by our PTSA and parent volunteers that we do for our school. 150 volunteers are needed for this program so if you like this program please sign up to help.
